Some years ago, as I began to seek a deeper and more intimate relationship with Christ, I was led of the Lord to commit several scripture verses to memory, and then to recite them to myself and to the Lord at least once each day, and preferably during the early morning hours.
As I began to select the special verses, I knew that I wanted the verses to cover every part of my daily life, bringing all the important matters and conditions of life before the Lord, my relationship with Him, my relationship with my wife, my relationship with my children, and my relationship with all the other people and circumstances that I would encounter each day, my work, my employer, my coworkers and my neighbors. After much prayer, I selected the following verses . . .
From Deuteronomy 6:5-9 . . . 5You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
From Ephesians 5:25-27 . . . 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
From 1 Peter 3:7 . . . 7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
From Proverbs 22:6 . . . 6Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
From Colossians 3:23-24 . . . 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Great memory verses Billy D. Bupps. I wish my mind wasn’t such a wasteland. I keep trying to memorize verses and they keep escaping from a porthole in my brain.
It’s not surprising to see verses about loving and honoring your wife in Mr. Adam’s repertoire (Thanks spell check!). He has demonstrated a life of loving, cherishing, and adoring his wife for many years. I’ve been blessed to witness Mr. Adams enjoy his “Sweet Wife!”. Thanks for your example! May God continue to bless you as you delight in Him and delight in each other!
